About the owners…
Happy Camping RV is owned and operated by Hans and Pam Michielen, both are alumni of the local “Paul Smith’s College”.
Hans taught Forestry and Forest Recreation, at Paul Smith’s College for 39 years. While there he also managed and maintained the college “Sugar Bush”. He wrote, established and taught the only collegiate course in Maple Sap & Syrup production. He was also known (for many years) in the local community for his volunteer work securing and running the log loader to build the Ice Castle for each year’s “Winter Carnival” celebration!
After Paul Smith’s College, Pam went on to pursue a career in banking and management. After marrying Hans in 1994 she moved to Vermontville. There she became active in the Girl Scouts by becoming Service leader for the local Girl Scout Troops. She also served as a board member to the local chapter of the American Red Cross and acted as treasurer for the Paul smith’s College Campus Ministry Program.
Over the years, they have (individually and together) traveled extensively. Pam has camped in every state in the US except for Hawaii, almost every Province in Canada- and through a large part of Europe. She also has extensive experience in backpacking. Hans has not only camped extensively but has taught methods of camping in recreation for many of his years at Paul Smith’s College.
In 2009 they decided to combine all their education, experience and practical knowledge to open their business, Happy Camping RV.
“It is so rewarding to assist people in finding the perfect camper to meet their travel needs. We have been there and understand the excitement and wonder in traveling to see the world in your camper. Whether you are traveling to the other side of the country or just down the road owning the right camper can enhance your camping experience.”
